DON’T GET ‘SHOPPING RAGE’ AT THE DUBAI SHOPPING FESTIVAL

The Dubai Shopping festival is once more nearly upon us - special offers, low, low prices, prizes, glitz – oh yes, I nearly forgot – crowds and crowds of people.

Enjoy it, spend, spend, spend, shop till you drop – all that stuff you enjoy – but don’t get angry and frustrated with your fellow shoppers or the assistants doing their best to help you get everything you want, when you want it.

Shopping rage, like road rage, and air rage, can ruin a good experience – turning a shopping festival into a shopping nightmare – or worse!!

Here are some useful tips to avoid getting so stressed that you begin to hit out.

Ø Look at the big picture – don’t get so wrapped up in what you are doing that you forget that everybody else is doing the same thing – stay cool
Ø Don’t take things personally – nobody is out to get you – to stop you getting what you want or preventing where you want to go with that trolley load of goodies – this includes getting out of the car parks back into the traffic!
Ø Count to ten – more than ten – count to a hundred if you need to – let things pass and recognize it as part of the moment only!
Ø Stop for a break - sit down and have a cappuccino – everything will still be there waiting for you, and you’ll enjoy it again!
Ø Breathe in deeply every now and then – you’ll be surprised how much this helps – a quickening of the pulse due to impatience also quickens breathing rhythms too – stop and breathe in slow and long and deep!
Ø Try to see the funny side – smile at people and they will usually smile back – nobody is here to fight or fall out!
Ø Talk to people in the same queue as yourself – making friends and being friendly works both ways – it makes people more well disposed to you and it makes you more cheerful – its difficult to be angry when you’re smiling at someone!
Ø Give yourself enough time to do what you expected to be able to do – rushing leaves you stressed and tired, and those things help to make you super-irritable very quickly!
Ø Be forgiving – if someone has pushed their trolley or bags into you – you’ll soon find that people will be apologetic – taking the heat out of a fiery moment diffuses potential flash points.
Ø Enjoy your shopping – be glad you are here picking up the bargains!!
